Huh? I'm guessin' folks in your world aren't too big on the latest tech, huh? Maybe that's for the best.
[Given how technology has totally ruined his world, Johnny is relieved that other places are not tormented by cyberware.]
Chrome is basically what the kids on the street call "cyberware," and if that doesn't ring any bells, then perhaps that's for the best.
The phrase "cyberware" refers to cybernetic technology grafted into or onto a biological body. Although cybernetic prosthetics were originally designed for practical and medical objectives, they have since become a matter of personal preference over time.
It's pretty uncommon to see folks without any cyberware these days, especially in Night City.
okay give me a second, this is pretty far beyond what i know
[ he's a little lost at the "cyber" part of it but after some quick research on his watch of what the word means, he thinks he gets it ]
so if i'm understanding this right, it's like... technology but for missing limbs and other things? like you can replace your eye with something electronic? why would people do this?
[โFar beyond?โ Eh? It has not occurred to him yet that this type of technology only exists in his version of Earth.
That is until now.
Thatโs why Johnny is a bit more patient with Wei Wuxian than he would be with most people. That within itself is a miracle.]
Necessity and sometimes vanity, I guess. I know I didnโt have much of a choice after my arm got blown off during the war.
It was either get a prosthetic, courtesy of the U.S. military, or live the rest of my life as โOne-Arm Johnny.โ Being a disabled veteran is practically a death sentence in my world.
But yeah, nearly everyone is boasting cybernetic parts these days. Itโs the only way to compete in a world obsessed with money and capitalism.
[ Wei Wuxian can't help but compare it to his time at war. Though he is getting the impression he was a much more willing participant and wanted to kill his opponent much more.
... Probably shouldn't tell Johnny about all the necromancy he did, he thinks. ]
it's good you stuck to your principles! that's admirable. though i understand how that stigma would really fuck up your reputation.
you're not wrong. it's kind of do or die here, with emphasis on the do
and yes! since february, when i arrived. i haven't collected many cards but i'm working at it slow and steadily. you're welcome to my card when you want it! you're pretty handsome, so i don't mind ๐
you're right though. there sure are some attractive people here! that could be part of their process of picking people but that might be a bit upsetting if you think about it too long
/i am so sorry for being so late

[Johnny wonโt go into detail here but his time in the military scarred him for life.]
I left the frontlines on principle. I didnโt want to kill anymore innocent people for the sake of a corrupt empire.
